He has lived in Edgemoor Gardens since 2012. Ellis developed a basketball program for the youth of Edgemoor, called Future Leaders Basketball Association, which he ran from 2014 to 2020. The program focused on mentoring and drug prevention. Ellis began working at Bellevue Community Center over 10 years ago and is currently working as a Community Outreach Coordinator. As a lifelong athlete, Kiersten knows firsthand the physical, mental, and social benefits of exercise and believes in the power of fitness as a vessel to help people discover their potential. As a former exercise physiologist at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL, Kiersten created individual fitness programs for people of all abilities, including those with neurological impairments, such as spinal cord injury, stroke, and Parkinson’s Disease. She is currently a member of the Neuromotor & Behavior Lab researching physical activity and high intensity exercise in people with chronic stroke. In 2021, Kiersten was appointed to the CrossFit Adaptive Competition Eligibility Board to help develop the processes for athlete eligibility in Adaptive Divisions. She currently conducts research and provides strength & conditioning plans for the mens and women's US Amputee Soccer Teams.
