Arena Adaptive

Arena Adaptive provides inclusive group fitness classes for individuals aged 9 to 99 in New Castle County and the surrounding areas, specifically designed for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Founded and operated by two experienced Doctors of Physical Therapy, our program is supported by a dedicated team of physical therapy student volunteers from local colleges and universities. We strive to create a welcoming and adaptive fitness environment for all participants.

Arena Adaptive has three primary goals:

  1. Community and Belonging: Foster a supportive environment where individuals can connect, share experiences, and form lasting friendships.

  2. Physical Health and Fitness: Enhance the physical well-being of individuals with disabilities through tailored exercise programs that promote strength, flexibility, and overall fitness.

  3. Self-Esteem and Mental Wellness: Boost self-esteem and improve mental health through positive experiences in fitness and social interaction.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in fitness activities. Over 50% of our athletes participate for free or at a highly discounted rate, ensuring that our programs are accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.

Class Structure:

  • Frequency: Classes are offered twice a week to provide consistent opportunities for participation.

  • Warm-Up: Each session begins with a gentle warm-up to prepare participants for exercise.

  • Adaptive Exercises: Participants engage in a variety of exercises, including strength training, cardio, and flexibility work, all modified to suit individual abilities.

  • Cool Down: Classes conclude with a cool-down period, featuring stretching and relaxation techniques to promote recovery.

  • Feedback & Progress Tracking: Regular assessments and feedback help participants monitor their progress and adjust their fitness goals as needed.
